Year of Wonder By Geraldine Brooks - Short Story By Jess - Age 14, VIC
This is my short story entry based on the novel Year of Wonders, written by Geraldine Brooks. It shows the point of view one of the characters, Aphra Bont, before she descends into madness but while she is exploiting the village. This scene is described on page 146 where Aphra tricks her friends into giving money while she gives a fake charm, that is believed to cure the Plague, in return.
Peter Pan By J. M. Barrie - Artwork By Caitlin - Age 16, NSW
For my entry i chose Peter Pan because it is my favourite novel. The main component of my entry is the quote “All children except one grow up”, this has been made from wire. The fairy wings in the background are a representation of not only the character of Tinkerbell but also the idea of never having to grow up as they are a costume piece. The glitter that is surrounding the piece is used as “pixie dust” once again representing the fairy component in the novel.
Boys Of Blood & Bone by David Metzenthen - Short Story By Angus - 15, QLD
This short story is an imaginative transformation of David Metzenthen’s “Boys of Blood & Bone.” I take a secondary character who plays an insignificant role in the novel, and transform him into an interesting personality in his own write, who is struggling with an important moral issue in the midst of combat. It is my hope that those who would read my work will eventually read the novel.
